BANGLADESH CHILD MARRIAGE STORIES The greatest hope of a mother is to see her daughter graduates and pursue her dreams
Tania’s mother – Nazma aged 33-year-old now, she is not only the mother of three daughters, but also the grandmother of three grandchildren. Three generations living under one roof is a symbol of a happy family. However, due to poverty issue in Bangladesh, they are trapped in a vicious cycle of child marriage.
Nazma was forced to get married under the arrangement of her parents, sadly Nazima could only marry her two daughters off at the age under 15 years old, seeing them repeating her tragedy of being trapped in a family with endless household chores.
Recalling the miserable marriage life, Nazma burst into tears
Through Plan International's anti-child marriage project, Tania deeply understands the adversity of child marriage and firmly insists on continuing her education.
The youngest daughter in the family, 15-year-old Tania shared, "Child marriage will not lead to a happy life. My ideal marriage is for two people to be happy in love, financially independent, and only start thinking about marriage when they are mature enough at the age of 25."
She dreams of becoming a soldier to prove that women can contribute to society.
